Second August, Saturday

Brock and I took the Big Boys to see Wall-E, "one of the best pieces of science fiction ever written." We all loved it. Afterwards we met Bin and Brazey at our new favorite lunch place, Kampai Sushi.

"Hmmm, let's see. I'll have the tempura shrimp. No shrimp."

After Kampai we went to the Pokemon Gym and I didn't take any pictures, too busy as I was with building my own deck, which took so long I didn't even get a chance to play. Evan challenged a regular to a battle and Evan WON! Congratulations! At the PokeGym the AC was on the fritz. We headed over to the weirdest Jack in the Box in the world for giant drinks and half-price real fruit smoothies.

See how weird? It really got to us.

Brazey was unfazed.

He can deal with anything.

Back at the Ranch the Big Boys began building a new giant Lego set. "A nice family activity."

See the concentration. See the tongue.

In the Music Room Brazey learned about the different kinds of guitars: classical, electric bass, electric guitar, acoustic guitar.

Brazey played.

Brock played.

We ate spaghetti and the Houges went home. Good day, everybody. Good night.

Friday Night

It's 105 degrees and they wanted to go to the play after the pool. Why didn't we go to the play first, and the pool second?

Jack claims that he doesn't play with girls, but he does. Especially if they play Tag.

Practicing some Skills.

Whose child is this? See the concentration. See the tongue.

Brock looks on. By the end of a few minutes, Brock had 'em both hand-over-handing the monkey bars. They're pros now.

Fun to go down this way.

Must be fun to go up this way, too.

New skills all over the place.

Mad. See that lower lip stuck out? "But you said we would go to their house."

Together again.

Mad. Bad tease.

Glad to have Uncle Brock back.

oh those baby browns

Kids love gadgets: cell phones, PDAs, remote controls, video game controllers. Cameras. Last time we were together I let Brazey hold my camera and showed him how to snap a few. He loved it, especially when I turned on the digital viewer and like magic there was a picture of Mama. So when we got together at the pool yesterday Brazey wanted my camera. To take a few pictures.

When he had my camera in his hands he was ecstatic. He held it with those chubby fingers and made his funny giggle.

We took a self-portrait.

But he wouldn't give up. He wanted my camera. He wanted to walk around the pool with my camera.

And I wouldn't let him. Auntie lets him do almost anything. He could run over me with a truck and I'd laugh.

I made him cry.

Real tears.

post-Pokemon Dinner Date

We had dinner together at the Houge House on Saturday night. Brazey did some coloring.

Uncle Dave helped. Brazey's like a tiny surgeon with an assistant when he colors. He'll hand you a marker and say, "Hnnh?" which means, "Open this, please." You open it and hand it back to him. He makes a stroke or two and hands the marker back to you for you to cap, then selects another marker and hands it to you, saying "Hnnh?" for you to open it. Repeat until drawing is complete.

Funny.

Really funny.

There goes Brazey, with his new Rooney Doodle electronic guitar.

Brazey climbed up himself to sit with Jack and watch Destiny Deoxys: The Movie.

I thought it was pretty cute. Can you tell?

Bin looks on as Evan engages in the Full Immersion Pokemon Program.

They had some fun.

File this under "blackmail."

Move over Rooney Doodle, cuz Pete Townsend is on the scene.

New trick.

Get down, Brown Eyes.

You talkin to me? You talkin' to me?

See, by the end of the night Brazey and Davey were good friends.
